There is a natural or perhaps better, a supernatural progression in the spiritual life. One normally begins with lots of vocal prayers, going through many different prayer books and that is a good thing, very pleasing to God. Then, God will give the person a hunger for spiritual reading in addition to their other forms of prayer and then one learns things about their faith very much like they learn things in any other course of study.

A detail from Joseph with the Child and the Flowering Rod, by Alonso Miguel de Tovar (1678–1752).
"Your father and I have been looking for you…And He went with them and was obedient to them.” (Luke 2: 48, 51) In these lines we find some of the most powerful testimony of the importance of St. Joseph’s role in the Gospel as the Guardian of the Word Made Flesh.

While this great feast of St. Joseph is always an important day in the life of the Church, it takes on even more significance in this year as Pope Francis has designated this liturgical year the Year of St. Joseph[1], recognizing the 150th year since Pope Pius IX declared him the Patron of the Universal Church.

Today Holy Mother Church calls us to celebrate the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. Perhaps the greatest persecutor of the Church is transformed by the grace of Christ, and freely becomes a great Apostle to the gentiles and eventually a martyr. In the letters of St. Paul, which have fed the souls of the saints and all Christians since the beginning of the Church, we can find many profound insights to the mystery of Christ and His Church, although perhaps none more profound than his understanding of the mystery of the Holy Trinity dwelling within us[1]. In this blog, taking points from Fr. Raoul Plus, S.J.’s God Within Us, we aim to bring awareness to the great mystery “hidden from ages” of the dwelling of the Holy Trinity within souls by grace.

It is not difficult to see that we live in a wounded world. Broken families, civil unrest, anxiety, wars, social injustice... the list could go on and on. We are made for the unconditional love of God, and yet what we see and face each day seems so far from it, leaving us all badly wounded. While wounds can be just (discipline for a mistake), imaginary (insinuating an offense that didn’t occur), or disproportionate (one exaggerates the level of offense), many wounds are in fact ‘real’, meaning they are an act of injustice. If left untreated, these wounds, like a thorn in one’s body, will cause one to become infected with the disease of resentment.

We all desire to heal from these wounds, but how can we do so?
